University West

University West is a Swedish public higher education institution based in Trollhättan, established in 1990 as Högskolan i Trollhättan/Uddevalla and renamed Högskolan Väst in 2006, when a single unified campus was built in central Trollhättan. It reports around 14,000 students and 740 employees, and offers about 30 undergraduate and 20 advanced-level programmes across four departments: Social and Behavioural Studies; the School of Business, Economics and IT; Health Sciences; and Engineering Science. Its distinguishing profile is Work Integrated Learning, a perspective and method embedded throughout education and research, allowing students to gain workplace experience during their studies. Applied research is strongest in production technology, partly through the Production Technology Centre, and in work-integrated learning itself; the university reports that 86% of graduates have a job within 1–1.5 years. Since 2023 it has been part of the STARS European University alliance. The International Office coordinates accommodation with local landlords, although places cannot be guaranteed.
