About the university

Study at Linnaeus University

Linnaeus University was formed on 1 January 2010 through the merger of Växjö University and the University of Kalmar, and is named after the botanist Carl Linnaeus. It is one of Sweden's larger higher education institutions, with campuses in Växjö and Kalmar and an optometry presence at Campus Lindholmen in Gothenburg. The university reports 40,259 registered students and 2,145 employees, including some 150 professors. Teaching and research span arts and humanities, health and life sciences, the social sciences, natural sciences, technology, and business and economics, organised in faculties across the two campus cities. Växjö is a compact campus where teaching premises, library, dining and sports facilities are within a few minutes' walk; Kalmar's Universitetskajen sits on the waterfront and is integrated into the city centre, which was named Student City of the Year 2023 by the Swedish National Union of Students. The university maintains partnerships with several hundred universities worldwide and runs International Relations support covering arrival, orientation, housing assistance and a buddy programme.
